Privacy Policy
BeatCypher is a social platform for sharing human beatbox audio ("cyphers"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language on purpose.
BeatCypher is operated by Dean S. Software Solutions ("BeatCypher", "we", "us"). For privacy questions or data requests, contact us at support@beatcypher.app.
What we collect
- Account data — your email address and password (passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider; we never see them in plain text).
- Profile — username, display name, bio, and avatar image.
- Content you post — your audio cyphers, captions, technique tags, video (if you add it), comments, and reactions.
- Activity — likes, saves, follows, battle and challenge participation, play history, and direct messages.
- Technical data — basic device and log information needed to operate the service and a push-notification token if you enable notifications.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers.
How we use your data
- To provide the core product: showing your cyphers, feeds, battles, challenges, messages, and notifications.
- To keep BeatCypher safe: moderation, handling reports and blocks, and enforcing our Community Guidelines.
- To maintain and improve the service and fix problems.
- To send you push notifications you have opted in to.
Public content and the website
Cyphers, profiles, comments, and technique tags are public by design inside the app — that is the point of a cypher. Public content can also appear on the BeatCypher website:
- Direct links you share (your profile at `/u/your-username` and individual cypher pages) always resolve, because you chose to share them.
- Featured / discovery rails on the website (for example the landing-page highlights) only include people who have left the "Feature on the website" setting on. You can turn it off any time in Settings → Privacy; we then stop surfacing your cyphers in those curated rails. Your already-shared direct links and your in-app experience are unaffected.
Direct messages are private and visible only to the people in the conversation.
Sharing and processors
We share data only with the service providers that run BeatCypher for us:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage, and edge functions (hosted in the EU).
- Expo — delivery of push notifications, if you enable them.
- Discord — only if you choose to connect your Discord account; we then store the link between your BeatCypher and Discord accounts so the bot can recognise you.
These providers act as processors on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete individual cyphers at any time, and you can delete your entire account under Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, cyphers, messages, and uploaded files. Some records may persist briefly in encrypted backups before they age out.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/EEA GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Most of this is self-service in the app; for anything else, email us at the address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
BeatCypher is not directed at children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to use it. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access to production data is restricted. No online service can be perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
International transfers
Our infrastructure is hosted in the EU. If you access BeatCypher from elsewhere, your data is processed on EU servers.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
